Peter Banks, the original guitarist for progressive rock legends Yes, has died. He was 65.

"It's with great sadness to have to report the death of Peter Banks," a post on his official site stated. "He died in his London home on March 8, 2013. Thanks for all the music Peter! R.I.P."

Former Yes member Billy Sherwood confirmed the news earlier today in a Facebook post.

"Rest In Peace.... Peter Banks," Sherwood wrote. "Peter very recently played on the new 'prog collective 2' project I'm writing/producing, as well as the 'days between stations' record I worked on. As a Yes fan... this is sad news indeed. It was an honor to work with Peter on many productions. Grade and Somehow Hollow guitarist Kent Abbott died Jan. 7 although there's no word as to the cause of death.

He was 32.

Abbott joined the band in the early 2000s and told publication The Appalachian he was thrilled to have the opportunity.

"I was a fan of Grade before I started playing with them, and to me they always created their very own sound," he said in a 2002 interview while the band toured behind Headfirst Straight to Hell. After Grade split up in 2002 the musician joined Somehow Hollow and would later go on to play with the .45 Goodbye.

"Kent had a passion for music and had played at venues around the world," Abbott's obituary reads. "He acquired a super sense of humour, was always attracted to people and would make them laugh."

Randy Gane, the keyboardist for the Geoff Tate-led version of Queensryche, suffered a heart attack on Boxing Day evening and is currently recovering. It's unclear if the musician remains in hospital or has since been released.

Ultimate Classic Rock reports Tate broke the news on Thursday via his own Facebook page.

"Please send your prayers and positive thoughts to my good friend and keyboard player; Randy Gane who is currently recovering from suffering a heart attack last night -- GT," he wrote.

Gane, 53, and Tate's working relationship dates back to the early '80s when both were member of Myth and were working together again in Tate's version of the progressive rock group. Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted says he'd rejoin the group but with one condition, that it would be for a Dr. Evil-like amount: a "squillion dollars."

In an interview with Swedish blog Metal Shrine, Newsted was asked if current Metallica bassist Rob Trujillo broke his leg on the cusp of a Metallica tour would he consider teaming up again with Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield.

"If they were cool and there were bros," Newsted said. Rick Cimato, drummer for New York metal band Thinning the Herd, was killed last weekend in a car accident.

"In shock and in tears over the loss of my friend and bandmate, I have to think of the band," singer Gavin Spielman said on the band's Facebook page yesterday. "I named the band Thinning The Herd when my father Steven A. Spielman passed, to cope with the loss. Rick would want me to keep writing for Thinning The Herd. If stop, I would not be doing his legacy service. His drumming on the new record is some of the best rock I have heard, and I want you guys to hear it. Thank god for this guy, what a_thumbnail.gift as a friend, brother and band mate."

The post came after an initial post of Cimato's death with Spielman saying he didn't think he could continue with the band after Cimato's death. Earlier today Spielman added another post stating Cimato "was not just in my band, he was a great, loyal, trustworthy friend." He also thanked friends and fans for their support in light of the tragedy.

Gun Shy Assassin reported Cimato was returning from visiting relatives in Maine when the head-on collision took place in Connecticut. A Rick Cimato Memorial Facebook page -- who listed Cimato as being born in 1975 -- has been set up with updates on the accident. A female occupant broke her eye socket and ruptured her spleen in the car Cimato was in, but will pull through. As will a male passenger who underwent surgery.

Thinning the Herd was on the cusp of seeing their new studio album Freedom From the Known released in early February, an album recorded by acclaimed producer Steve Albini.

Megadeth singer Dave Mustaine is currently working on the band's new studio album and recently shed a little bit of light into the recording process and his current sources of inspiration: the big man upstairs and an actor who spoke to an empty chair at the Republican National Convention.

"Cutting vocals today! Some inspiration! #Jesus and #ClintEastwood," Mustaine tweeted yesterday with an accompanying photo. The tweet shows a picture with a crucifix and an image of Eastwood portraying Josey Wales in the 1976 Western film The Outlaw Josey Wales. Meanwhile, a lyrics sheet on the right is titled "Forget to Remember," a possible working title for a song.

Mustaine also took some time to take in Les Miserables, the new motion picture starring Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman. Green Day have cancelled some upcoming promotional appearances as Billie Joe Armstrong is seeking treatment for substance abuse.

Killing Joke's lead singer Jaz Coleman has reportedly gone missing with his remaining bandmates hoping he emerges for a forthcoming tour with The Cult and The Mission UK after a bizarre Facebook post which called the tour into question.

"A statement was posted on Facebook, reputedly by our singer, maligning both The Cult and The Mission and pulling us out of the shows," the band wrote on its Facebook page earlier today (July 31). "He is now AWOL and has not been contacted by any of his bandmates. We are deeply embarrassed by this and offer our sincere apologies to all involved. We are all concerned about our missing singer's welfare."

The post comes after a Facebook post earlier this month -- which has since been removed and allegedly written by a fan posing as Coleman -- that said Killing Joke was pulling out of the trek. Michael Bluestein, the keyboardist for Foreigner, has been forced to take an indefinite leave from the group after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer.

While the band made no official statement on its site, via Twitter or Facebook, Bluestein posted on the band's message board Tuesday (May 29) with the news.

"I recently went to the hospital following some symptoms, and it was discovered that I have Colorectal cancer," Bluestein said. "This has required me to take a leave of absence from the band for a significant period. The good news is that I caught this early enough so that through chemotherapy, radiation and surgery, I will be able to treat this and return to normal life after it's over. Van Halen singer David Lee Roth didn't waste much time stopping the band's concert a few days ago in Winnipeg to chew out a fan for throwing garbage onstage.

As shown in a quick YouTube clip, the group was performing a cover of the Roy Orbison hit "Pretty Woman" when Roth was walking back to center stage at the MTS Centre when what looks to be a plastic bottle or cup is thrown from the crowd, missing Roth's leg.

After Rush filed a cease and desist letter preventing controversial right wing talk show host Rush Limbaugh from using their music on his program, guitarist Tom Morello lashed out at the host late Thursday night for using Rage Against the Machine's music.

Billy Talent drummer Aaron Solowoniuk, 37, is recovering from open heart surgery.

"On Feb. 2nd, I had open heart surgery to repair a leaky aortic valve. The surgery went perfect but healing takes a while," the musician, who also suffers from multiple sclerosis, wrote on the Canadian rockers' website, noting it would a "couple of months" to recuperate.

Solowoniuk alerted Billy Talent fans to his condition earlier this month. "I never thought I would have to write another letter like this," he wrote Feb. 17. "In March of 2006, I wrote a letter telling you all I have MS. Now I am writing you to tell you that I have a problem with my heart that needed to be fixed."

The Juno Award-winning band -- who are set to release the followup to 2009's 'Billy Talent III' later this summer -- have pulled out of Belgium rock festival Groezock in April. You can now add Survivor to the list of artists (Tom Petty, Sheryl Crow, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp and the New Pornographers to name a few) irked by politicians using their songs during election campaigns.

According to The Guardian, Newt Gingrich is being sued by Frankie Sullivan, co-writer of Survivor's classic '80s rock staple 'Eye of the Tiger,' for using the song repeatedly during campaign rallies.

Acclaimed rock photographer Andrew MacNaughtan -- who worked with several groups including Rush and Barenaked Ladies -- died earlier this week. He was 47. According to the Toronto Star, the photographer suffered a heart attack in California where he was on assignment photographing Rush.

"We're deeply shocked and heartbroken to learn of the sudden passing of our close friend and long-time photographer, Andrew MacNaughtan," the band said on their official site. "He was a very sweet person and a very talented artist. Words cannot describe how much he will be missed. - Geddy, Alex & Neil"

MacNaughtan's own site shows a photo with "Feb. 25 1964 - Jan. 24 2012" below it although some reports indicate he died Wednesday, Jan. 25. Last year, German hard rock band the Scorpions announced that 'Sting in the Tail' would be their final studio album with a farewell world tour to follow. Yet with the tour booked well into 2012 and 2013, the group led by founding guitarist Rudolf Schenker and singer Klaus Meine, recently managed to release another album called 'Comeblack.'

Some have criticized the group - garnering a surprisingly younger legion of fans lately - for releasing another album after proclaiming 'Sting in the Tail' to be the last, but Schenker is adamant it's not the case.

"We said it would be great to make a project because we see it as a project, not an album like a real Scorpions album," he tells Noisecreep. "We stayed true to our word saying that 'Sting in the Tail' is our last studio album. But this is a project for us because as a band we never went into cover versions so much."

Anthrax's concert last night (Oct. 22) at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles was interrupted when a fan jumped onstage and approached lead singer Joey Belladonna. Venue security sprang into action, but unfortunately for Belladonna, it did more harm than good.

As can be seen in a YouTube clip posted Sunday morning (and available below), the band was performing 'Metal Thrashing Mad' when a fan approached Belladonna. The frontman stepped back before getting behind the fan to restrain him. A security guard on the floor then jumped to the stage and ran headfirst into the fan and the singer, knocking both hard to the ground.
