Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi is on the road to recovery now, but the guitar great says there was definitely some periods of doubt as he began his treatment for lymphoma.

Iommi tells Guitar World that the initial diagnosis really hit him hard. He recalls, "Once I heard my doctor say that, my whole world changed. I thought, 'Bloody cancerous lymphoma? Well that's it. I've had it.'" If you are frustrated by talk of a Metallica album not arriving before 2015, you're not alone. Frontman James Hetfield is equally anxious to have a new album to support, but the reality of the situation is that the band's schedule is keeping them from getting to it.

Hetfield told Billboard, "I want it done yesterday and [Orion Music + More] and this movie is keeping us pretty busy at this point and it's taking a lot of time and effort. Uriah Heep's longtime bassist Trevor Bolder has died at the age of 62 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Bolder was also famously a member of David Bowie's backing band the Spiders From Mars.

Ray Manzarek of the legendary rock band The Doors has died at the age of 74. The keyboardist passed away today (May 20) in Germany following a battle with bile duct cancer.

On May 17, As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis appeared in Vista Superior Court for a bail hearing. Lambesis is currently facing charges on allegedly attempting to hire a hitman to kill his estranged wife earlier this month, and in this new hearing, Lambesis' defense lawyer blamed steroid use for the singer's actions.

Lambesis' defense lawyer, Thomas Warwick, told the court that the As I Lay Dying singer had taken to weightlifting, eating healthier and became a spokesperson for nutritional supplements. Nine Inch Nails have just lost their new bassist. Eric Avery, who formerly played the four-string for Jane's Addiction, has left Nine Inch Nails after feeling "overwhelmed" by the band's upcoming tour schedule.

The past year of Randy Blythe's life has been a roller-coaster ride of emotion. After being jailed in the Czech Republic on accusations of manslaughter stemming from a 2010 concert incident, the Lamb of God singer was found not guilty on all charges in March of this year.

It's been a tumultuous and troubled time in Puddle of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin's life. Within the past two years, the rock singer has faced charges related to drug possession, tax evasion, public intoxication and driving with a suspended license, but this latest charge is perhaps Scantlin's most serious allegation to date.

According to TMZ, Scantlin was taken into custody on the afternoon of May 13 after an alleged domestic disturbance between the Puddle of Mudd frontman and his ex-wife, Jessica. The rocker apparently acted violently against his former bride, which was witnessed by a number of people. The band Slayer announced in a press release today (May 10) that lead guitarist Jeff Hanneman, who was a legendary figure in heavy metal, died of "alcohol-related cirrhosis of the liver."

Hanneman's passing was announced on May 3, prompting early speculation that prior health issues brought on by a necrotizing fasciitis infection that resulted from a spider bite may have been to blame.
