OCEANSIDE, Calif. (AP) - The lead singer of Grammy-nominated heavy metal band As I Lay Dying was arrested Tuesday in Southern California as authorities said he tried to hire an undercover detective to kill his estranged wife.

Tim Lambesis, 32, was arrested at a retail business in Oceanside, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

The statement said detectives received information Thursday that Lambesis had solicited someone to kill his wife, who lives in nearby Encinitas. A task force from several law enforcement agencies quickly launched an investigation that led to the arrest.

The department would give no further details on the investigation.

As I Lay Dying formed in San Diego in 2000 and has released six albums including 2007's "An Ocean Between Us," which reached No. 8 on Billboard's charts. A track from the album was nominated for a Grammy for top metal performance.

It was not clear whether Lambesis had hired an attorney, and a phone message seeking comment left at a number listed in his name was not immediately returned.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - A defamation lawsuit against Sammy Hagar filed by a former Playboy bunny who claims he fathered her child has been dismissed, and the former Van Halen frontman is pleased with the result, his attorney said Monday.

U.S. District Judge Linda Reade ruled April 30 that Hagar did not defame the woman - identified as Jane Doe in court documents - when he accused her in his 2011 memoir of falsely naming him as the baby's father in order to extort money.

"We're certainly gratified by the result and we hope this means that it's all over," said Hagar's attorney, Wesley Kinnear of San Francisco. "It's difficult to be involved in litigation like this. It was a surprise to him. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Bassist Todd Harrell of the rock band 3 Doors Down has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication after an interstate crash claimed the life of another motorist in the Nashville area, police said.

The 41-year-old musician remained jailed early Sunday in connection with the fatal accident late Friday night on Interstate 40 that left 47-year-old Paul Howard Shoulders Jr. dead, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said.

A police statement said a preliminary investigation showed that Harrell was driving west at a high rate of speed in the Nashville suburb of Hermitage when his car clipped a pickup truck driven by Shoulders. Police said the pickup then went out of control, struck a guardrail, went down an embankment and overturned. NEW YORK (AP) - The maker of the Playtex brand has hired an unexpected spokesman for its new "Fresh and Sexy" intimate wipes: rocker Andrew W.K.

The wipes, introduced in February, are designed for both men and women to use before and after sexual activity. The Playtex brand, owned by battery maker Energizer Holdings Inc., already markets a variety of consumer products including baby products and household gloves, but it's mostly known as a tampon brand. The new product is the latest in a wave of consumer product makers expanding feminine care brands into new categories.

Hiring Andrew W.K. - a long-haired rocker known for songs with titles like "Party Hard" from his breakout 2001 album "I Get Wet" - to promote the brand is one way to push the message that the wipes are for both men and women. LAS VEGAS (AP) - A county commissioner in Las Vegas says she regrets the board renamed a street in honor of Guns N' Roses after finding out about the band's suggestive promotional poster.

An ad promoting the band's four-week run (seen here) at the Hard Rock Hotel depicts a woman who appears to be sexually assaulted beneath the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign.

It's a sanitized version of the banned cover for the album "Appetite for Destruction," which features a disheveled woman with a breast exposed and underwear pulled below her knees.

County leaders this week temporarily renamed Paradise Road to Paradise City Road after the band's famous song.

Commissioner Mary Beth Scow tells the Las Vegas Sun she didn't know about the inappropriate poster.

SEATTLE (AP) - Michael Henrichsen has ideas about how he might celebrate his 26th birthday this week.

First, Billy Idol rolls up in a limo and tells him to hop in. There are women everywhere. And later, when the British rock icon takes the stage and rips into "Rebel Yell," bras start flying and 1,800 of his closest friends go wild.

Far-fetched? Maybe not. After a two-year campaign that was part resume stunt, part charity drive and part heartfelt effort to get his far-flung friends together for a great time, the irrepressible Seattle man has actually persuaded Idol to play his birthday party Friday night.
"This is surreal," Henrichsen says. "It should not be happening."

So why is it? In his bedroom, surrounded by Cyndi Lauper and Madonna records, a drumstick he picked up at an Idol show two years ago, and rock posters, Henrichsen explains:

CAIRO (AP) - A heavy metal concert has prompted a police investigation after an Islamist lawyer claimed it was attended by Satanists at a well-known cultural center in Egypt's capital Cairo.

PRAGUE (AP) - An official says the frontman of U.S. death metal band Lamb of God has been released on bail from a Prague prison, several weeks after his arrest in connection with a fan's death in 2010.

Randy Blythe, 41, was arrested June 27 and is being investigated for bodily harm resulting in death. Czech media say that during a 2010 concert in Prague an audience member climbed onto the stage and that Blythe then pushed him off. The fan reportedly hit the floor with his head and later died of the injuries.

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Metallica vocalist James Hetfield had warned things could get perilous at the start of the band's fifth tour of Mexico, saying "We're very focused on how dangerous this show is."

The audience of more than 22,000 believed it too. Many of the fans were visibly terrified Saturday night as the band re-enacted its burn-down-the-stage performance from 1998's "Cunning Stunts" video album.

At one point a technician fled across the stage like a human torch in a Mexico City show that featured explosions, pyrotechnics, laser lights and the odd giant coffin.

FRONT ROYAL, Va. (AP) -- A Virginia judge has dismissed White House party crasher Tareq Salahi's $50 million lawsuit against the rock musician who ran off with Salahi's wife.

Salahi accused Journey guitarist Neal Schon and two affiliated entertainment companies of scheming to break up his marriage and capitalize on the split for business purposes.

NEW YORK (AP) -- New father Jack Osbourne is facing a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.

The former reality star and son of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne revealed his health crisis in an interview with People released Sunday. He told the magazine he was angry and frustrated when he found out, and he's concerned about his family.

A Paris police spokesman said Wednesday that the lead singer of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted band was fuming after the theft during a private gathering after the band's show at Bercy stadium the previous night.

Judicial police have opened an investigation but the spokesman said it didn't appear Rose was wearing the necklaces at the time. The spokesman spoke on condition of anonymity because of office policy.
