Children of Bodom, 'Transference': Finnish Metal Gods Release New Track

Action! PR

With Halo of Blood, their eighth studio album, hitting stores on June 11, Children of Bodom have issued a new track called "Transference" to whet our appetites. Check out the track here.

The Finnish metal beasts recorded Halo of Blood with longtime engineer Mikko Karmila and Hypocrisy mainman Peter Tägtgren who also worked with Children of Bodom on their Follow the Reaper and Hate Crew Deathroll albums.

"'Transference' has an evil vibe to it which I wish I knew how to explain because it still gives me chills," says Children of Bodom guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho. "This is one of our favorite tracks from the new album. Enjoy!"

Cathedral's Lee Dorrian on the Band Ending, How Their Former Label Tried to Make Them the Next Black Crowes

Rise Above

Cathedral is dead. Long live Cathedral.

What started 21 years ago when then-former Napalm Death vocalist Lee Dorrian plumbed the depths of the then unhip doom metal underground has finally come to its end. Cathedral's final eulogy will be spoken later this month with the release of their final album, The Last Spire.

From the doom-plod of 1990's In Memorium demo and it follow-up album, 1991's Forest of Equilibrium, Cathedral not merely helped popularize the sound that Dorrian & Co. found in the likes of Saint Vitus or Pentagram, but also became a vehicle to explore the heavy sounds of generations past. From the troubled-funk of songs like "Midnight Mountain" from '93's The Ethereal Mirror (the product of Cathedral's one-album stand with major label benefactors, Columbia) to 2010's The Guessing Game, which pushed into the outer limits of psychedelic and progressive sounds, Dorrian and Cathedral (rounded out by guitarist Gaz Jennings, drummer Brian Dixon and returning bassist Scott Carlson, also of grind heroes Repulsion) were never one too pious to adhere strictly to doom metal's touchstones.

Dorrian has also spearheaded his own label, Rise Above for nearly two and a half decades as well. With a roster that includes the likes of Witchcraft, Electric Wizard and the first album from everyone's current darlings, Ghost B.C., Rise Above has become an institution in itself.

Noisecreep caught up with Lee one rainy (of course!) Saturday evening at Rise Above's London offices to talk about Cathedral's last days, his future plans and John Lydon. Yes, John Lydon.

Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!, 'The Best Is Yet to Come' (SONG PREMIERE)

Fearless Records

At Noisecreep, we're big fans of Paris-based pop punk favorites Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! - and so it's a great pleasure for us to be premiering their new track, "The Best Is Yet to Come." The song comes off their much-anticipated album, Pardon My French, which drops April 30.

Here's what frontman Bertrand Poncet told us about this killer new track: "This song was inspired by personal experiences. We wanted to talk about how good it could be to draw a line on your past, and start your life with a fresh clean slate!"

So without further adieu (see what we did there?), we're happy to share "The Best It Yet to Come' to get your weekend started right.

A Pale Horse Named Death Tell the Story of a 'Killer By Night' (PREMIERE)

Candy Lust

After flooring hard rock fans with And Hell Will Follow Me, their 2011 debut album, A Pale Horse Named Death proved that they were more than a mere side project type of affair. Featuring Sal Abruscato (drummer of Life of Agony, Type O Negative fame) on vocals/guitars, guitarist Matt Brown (Seventh Void), drummer Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative, Danzig), and guitarist Eddie Heedles, A Pale Horse Named Death deliver a Sabbathy brew of air guitar-ready riffs and hooky vocal melodies.

On May 21, A Pale Horse Named Death will return with Lay My Soul to Waste, their sophomore album. Noisecreep has the pleasure of bringing you the exclusive premiere of "Killer By Night," a track off the album.

"'Killer By Night' is pretty much the sequel for the song 'Serial Killer' off of the first album," Abrucsato tells Noisecreep. "It's a continuing story of a killer living a double life with multiple personality disorder. It's one of my favorite songs we've ever done."

System of a Down's Serj Tankian to Release Two Albums This Summer + More News

Vanderlei Almeida, Getty Images

System of a Down vocalist Serj Tankian is independently releasing two albums this summer through his Serjical Strike Records. He will drop Orca, his first true symphony, on June 25, and follow it on July 23 with a collaborative jazz-infused album, dubbed Jazz-iz Christ.

Recorded in Linz, Austria in October of 2012, Orca was composed and demoed in Tankian's home studio and fully realized after a successful Kickstarter campaign that helped fund a recording and debut performance at the regal Brucknerhaus with the "Das Karussell Ensemble." With conductor Werner Steinmetz at the helm, the four acts of Orca mix influences from early 20th century composers with modern film compositional dynamics showing influences ranging from Ennio Morricone to Philip Glass. Listeners are met with a mingling of sounds and intertwining pieces that are both serene and bombastic at the same time, offering a fresh interpretation to the classical art.

Jazz-iz Christ is Serj's brainchild, but truly is a collaborative effort between many musicians that Tankian curated to be part of the group and self-titled album. Among others, there are considerable contributions from renowned pianist Tigran Hamasyan, flautist Valeri Tolstov, and trumpet player Tom Duprey. Additional performances from Stewart Copeland (the Police) and actor/musician Davis Alpay and Vincent Pedulla make for a very unique collaboration. The 15 tracks that comprise Jazz-iz Christ, a mostly instrumental effort except for 4 tracks, are an amalgam of progressive jazz, electronic, ethnic and even rock elements, displaying a unique presentation of the genre itself.

I Is Another: Members of Far, Rival Schools Announce New Project

Siren Records

Far mastermind Jonah Matranga and Rival Schools guitarist Ian Love have combined their talents in a new project they've dubbed I Is Another. You might also recognize the musicians' names from their time in other groups like New End Original, Burn, Cardia, among other projects.

I Is Another will release their debut eponymous release on CD, double 7", and digitally, on June 24. The band describes their sound as combining "distinct gritty shades of Zeppelin, Sabbath, and Cocteau Twins with the vocal intensity of Sunny Day Real Estate and Braid."

We're sold!

"Honestly, we didn't make this record for any other reason than the love of making records," explains vocalist Matranga. "Ian had some tunes that he could hear my voice on, so he sent them over. We really took our time, just tried to make something worth listening to."

Skillet Frontman Is 'Sick' of the 'Negative' Influence Hollywood Has on Children + More (INTERVIEW)

Reid Rolls

Two-time Grammy nominated Skillet are set to release their new album, Rise, on June 25. The lead single, "Sick of It," was released on iTunes and radio on April 9 and in the meantime, the band has released a short teaser video of the track (seen below).

Noisecreep spoke with Skillet frontman John Cooper about the anthemic new single and the rest of the album, too!

John, how do you feel just before new work is released? Do you get nervous?

I do. But I also get very excited. With 'Sick of It' in particular, I feel great about the song and I feel very happy with the sound of it, the mix - everything. I know what it's like to be a fan of something and everyone has their expectations and so as an artist, I absolutely get a few butterflies about how people will react.
