"I was doing a Mayhem Fest spread for Vic Firth, and my favorite shot of the bunch is actually an outtake. When I was shooting Clown, he is just a master of knowing what looks good. He’s a photographer, he does video work, he knows how to pose with almost no direction needed. Being that he didn’t need direction, he was constantly moving from AWESOME pose to awesome pose… so every shot happened ONCE then it was completely different. This shot was one of my favorites, however the Vic Firth logos aren’t showing in the shot (they were turned in the next shot). I think this shot really shows the duality of being both menacing and fun in a single image. This is a definitive shot of Clown. Taken with two bare parabolics with flags tight on the rim and a main beauty dish pointed a little downward for some directional shadows. F10 at a 160th"
