Coalesce Wrote EP During Scion Fest

At Scion Rock Fest back in February, Coalesce did two things: they decimated the smallest stage of the fest and used a hotel room to write a new EP. Even though the first full length from Coalesce in a decade, 'OX' is slated to hit on June 9 via Relapse, a follow up EP is already being recorded.
Most bands got snowed in Atlanta the day after the fest, leaving them stuck in a hotel. Southerners fear any snow, they tremble at the word as if it means the end is truly nigh, and three inches shut the entire city down. Coalesce used this time to write.

Vocalist Sean Ingram told Noisecreep, "It is indeed a continuation of OX and is going to be called OXEP. It's six or seven more songs in the vein of the OX record." Long time producer Ed Rose is recording the EP and the artwork will have Don Clark from Invisible Creature, who did the 'OX' packaging, returning as well. "There were some things we wanted to expand on, and luckily we got the chance. It should be out this year too. It will tie in to OX in theme and also packaging and art."
At Scion Fest Coalesce debuted songs from 'OX' to a rabid crowd stuffed in a shoe box with a bar in it. It was the band's choice to play the smallest stage. "Coalesce came to the conclusion that we have two shows. A stage show, and the house show. We feel more comfortable face to face with the crowd, and exchanging that energy at close range," Sean says.
Coalesce never got to finish their set though, a sound man cut them off barking, "You sound like shit and broke all my mics." Sean says, "We don't mean to piss off sound guys as much as we do, but it seems like they should have at least a loose grasp of what they are getting into when they sign on to work with us. We should probably start advancing them. Or not."
