The Rochester-born quartet Psyopus are one of the leading members of the avant-garde metal subgenre, and much is due to the unmatched technique of guitarist Christopher Arp. Their latest release has been described as exploring "all ranges from controlled noise, stop-on-a-dime melodic precision, extreme manipulation of expectations, innovative techniques, miserable drama, and blinding intensity." The band has an unmistakably definitive sound based on their experimental methods of drawing out a breakdown, and Brian Woodruff has an insane vocal range.
