As previously reported on Noisecreep, police identified the remains of a young woman found in a remote hayfield to be those of missing Metallica fan Morgan Harrington. Harrington went missing after the band's Oct. 17 concert in Charlottesville, Va. last year. Today, the band issued a statement about the grisly discovery, saying that they are "profoundly saddened by the news."
"Our most sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Morgan Dana Harrington, the 20-year-old Virginia Tech student who was last seen while attending our concert at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Va.," the band wrote on their Web site. "Sadly, Morgan's body was found yesterday ending her family's three month vigil, hoping and praying for her safe return. Mere words cannot express the anguish and grief that we know her parents Dan and Gil are feeling, and our thoughts are with them."The remains of a blond woman were found on Jan. 26, 10 miles south of where Harrington was last seen. The night of the concert, she reportedly became separated from friends and was spotted looking distraught outside of the venue. Dental records were used to positively identify the remains as those as those of Morgan Harrington, bringing closure to her parents' harrowing three-month ordeal.
Police confirmed for the media during a press conference Tuesday evening that they were "fairly confident" the body was Harrington's because it belonged to someone with blond hair and because of clothing and other items that were found at the scene. The positive identification followed an autopsy performed on the remains last night. A cause of death has not yet been released, and it is still unknown when she was killed.
Metallica had offered a $50,000 reward for any information leading to Harrington's safe return. More than 600 tips were phoned in to police, but none led to Harrington. It was a farmer feeding his cattle who found the body.

My thoughts go out to all of you. I hope your pain eases, as I am sure your daughter would not want you to linger in pain and grief. Please enjoy each sunset and sunrise as she would have wanted and spread her love of life and music to those around you. Metallica: Thanks for caring about this young woman and her family in their time of grief.

I am a mother of 6 and once had not known my daughters whereabouts for a few hours when she went with a friend
to a concert and it is horrifying, though mine had a happy ending, for a brief time, I knew what it felt like. I am so very sorry that this girl's story wasn't a happy ending and I really feel so much pain for her family, may god be with them. Also, kudos to Metallica for acknowledgeing this sad occurance more people could learn from them.

This is why it is so important to look out for your friends at shows. Who knows why she got separated from them, but this is what can happen. Don't split up...if you think you will call or text to find them again, you never know what might happen...phones can go dead, get lost...whatever.

The person who would not let that lovely young woman back into the concert = concert venues need to use a hand stamp or wristbands or some other way to keep young people safe and let young people back into a concert if they go out for any reason.
The situation brings to mind the store clerk who made young Adam Walsh leave a store through a door that led into a parking lot. If we could go back in time, the clerk would instead have called security and detain the child in a safe place.
We need to think of the safety of each other first, over any other concern. The person who would not let that young woman back in was not thinking of her safety because that priority still needs to be taught to the venues.

this is so true and I think they should revise
their policy.

p.s. what I mean is that the person was doing their job as they had been instructed, and they were doing it to the best of their ability. But that the venues need to teach their people about the safety of their customers, so that their workers have the go-ahead to deal with situations like that. The person might have even wanted to let the young woman back in but feared they might lose their job.

It is crazy to think of humanity and the monsters that come in contact with us everyday, can pick up a teenager and within 10 miles, do god knows what to her before killing her and just dumping the body like trash. I will never understand the why's or whatfore's.

Some people are just incredibly sick. However, I like to believe that what goes around comes around. The person who did this will eventually find what is coming to them.

This is not sick, sick is an excuse, this murderer is evil. God rest her soul and rid the world of this evil.

Thank You, Metallica for your compassion in this tragedy. I lost my cousin years ago to an abduction. She was 15. Such a grim tale. Me sincerest sympathies to the parents, and friends. Please remember the light and joy she brought to you...

Another cowardly monster murders a young woman. Ladies, guys who hang around outside clubs at night are not your friends. This guy must have been a local who knew where that “inaccessible” field was. Maybe a local hunter or trapper. Sad that just losing your ticket can cost you your life. EVERYONE should be armed and prepared.

Despite having advanced to the age where I no longer enjoy modern music, I take my hat off to this fine group of musicians, who have expressed a sincere interest in the welfare of one of their young fans and her loving family. While I might not ever recognize one of your songs, your band's name will be forever etched in my memory as one of the finest groups on the planet.
