Orgy Planning a Comeback?
These days, it seems like every flash-in-the-pan band that ever had a radio single is getting back together for either a tour or a new album or both. Adema, Cold, Creed, Limp Bizkit have all returned from insignificance...so why shouldn't Orgy, those 'death pop' rockers responsible for the synth-heavy 1999 cover of New Order's 'Blue Monday'?
Well, if online ruminations are to be believed, the Bakersfield, Calif., outfit is orchestrating a reunion for later on this year. The band may even tour. The news was leaked earlier this week in a video message from the group's guitarist Ryan Shuck, who is also a member of Dead by Sunrise and Julien-K.
"I probably shouldn't say a lot about this, but I've kind of got a stick up my ass about doing something with Orgy," Shuck explains in the video. "We're gonna be doing a tour -- Julien-K -- most likely, I'd say, in June, maybe after, in Europe, and if we do something with Orgy, that means we will have played a full tour with three different bands in one year. Pretty awesome. All original bands, all original content. It's starting to become a sort of a challenge and something I really wanna do."
There are no indications of a reunion on any of Orgy's official Web sites, and the rest of the band -- drummer Bobby Hewitt, singer Jay Gordon, guitarist Amir Derakh, and bassist Paige Haley -- have not commented on the possibility. The band's last studio LP dropped in 2004, with the D1 Music-issued 'Punk Statik Paranoia.'
