Mare Cognitum Showcase Mysterious Black Metal on 'A Vain Lament' -- Song Premiere
Jason Fisher
Mare Cognitum is a one-man melodic black metal project. Based in Santa Ana, Calif., the music is written and recorded by a musician named Jacob Buczarski. Fans of Immortal, Darkthrone and Arckanum, should check out Mare Cognitum's haunted and depressive brand of songwriting
'The Sea Which Has Become Known,' the first release of the project, has one foot in the early '90s school of black metal and the other foot in a more modern and progressive take on the genre. It was recorded during the summer of 2011 and will be released via Severed Limb Records. Noisecreep got its hands on a song called 'A Vain Lament' from the forthcoming record. Check out the exclusive stream under the cut.
Buczarski gave Noisecreep some background on 'A Vain Lament':
"My lyrics are always written last after the song is in its final form. I simply listen to the finished track a few times and see what my imagination produces, usually a story or a character. I use this image to inspire lyrics, and often times I read over the final product and realize it does not seem to illustrate what I originally envisioned or that it came out much more vague.
"In the situation of 'A Vain Lament,' the lyrics involve one person's journey into a hypothetical afterlife where he is forced to finally stop to see the beauty of existence he had missed his entire life. I wrote this while particularly dismayed at the effect that things like constant advertising and commercialization have on the human mind, especially city dwellers like myself."
'The Sea Which Has Become Known' will be out soon via Severed Limb Records.
