Tenacious D Make Surprise Appearance at Los Angeles Event

Charles Epting

When Bad Religion drummer Brooks Wackerman interrupted his set at the Guitar Center 'Drum-Off' at Los Angeles' Club Nokia this past Saturday (Jan 14.) to invite out some friends out on stage with him, no one in the capacity crowd knew what they were in for.

Just a few moments later, Jack Black, Kyle Gass, John Konesky and John Spiker - the guys from Wackerman's other band, Tenacious D - graced the stage and the place went into meltdown mode.

Kicking off with their tongue and cheek anthem 'The Metal,' and continuing through a punchy, energetic 15-minute set, Tenacious D raised the roof on a show that had already all but elevated the crowd. Donning a black Dio tour jacket, Black was his wild-eyed, metal maven self and added a major musical exclamation mark to an already thrilling evening.

Tenacious D will release their third studio album, 'The Rise of the Phoenix,' which will hit stores sometime in 2012.
