Megadeth Frontman Dave Mustaine's Most Controversial Quotes

Today, Noisecreep takes a look at some of Mustaine's most controversial comments.
Dave Mustaine on religion in schools
The Dave Mustaine crazy quote train has been going full steam ahead for months now. Back in December of 2011, MTV interviewed the Megadeth frontman... and the topic of religion in schools came up. Mustaine threw caution – and the First Amendment to the wind – during this one:
"It's pretty clear that they're taking prayer out of school. It's been happening for a very long time. The very first schoolbook that was written had God all over it. I collect books and I have some really, really old schoolbooks, and God is mentioned on every single page. They're taking God out of the schools to dumb us down."
Dave Mustaine may or may not be a birther
Dave was interviewed by Canadian journalist George Stroumboulopoulos at the end of March 2012. Stroumboulopoulos asked Mustaine point blank about being a birther. You know, someone who believes President Barack Obama wasn't born in America. Mustaine didn't even flinch. Instead, he doubled down.
"I have a lot of questions about [Obama], but certainly not where he was born. I know he was born somewhere else than America. . . I'm not calling a question to it, I just... How come he was invisible until he became whatever he was in Illinois?"
Dave Mustaine tells African women to "put a plug" in it
LA Weekly interviewed Mustaine in February, 2012 during the recent Gigantour. He spoke about politics and music of course... and just couldn't resist getting a dig in at poor, African women.
"There's so many houses without a dad that it's just terrible. I mean, you know how they used to say there should be a license to have a baby? Well, as far-fetched as that sounds, I really think that, if the parents aren't going to stick together, they shouldn't make that kind of commitment to life. I watch some of these shows from over in Africa, and you've got starving women with six kids. Well, how about, you know, put a plug in it? It's like, you shouldn't be having children if you can't feed them."
Dave Mustaine says America is spiraling down a path... to socialism
Mustaine made the comment while being interviewed for the radio station 107.7 The Bone just a few days ago. It seems as the Republican presidential primary draws to a close, Mustaine is getting more riled for the general election contest. We're gonna assume he's not voting for Obama this year.
"I have tried not to say anything right now because I'm so freaked out about what's happening to our country," Mustaine told radio jock Nikki Blakk. "I mean, it looks like we're sprinting down the path to socialism and I don't understand where the American people are right now. You wanna impeach a guy for getting a blowjob yet you have a guy that's destroying our country and you just let him run rampant."
Dave Mustaine is anti-gay marriage, but very pro-Christian
When speaking with a reporter from Seattle Weekly in Feburary 2012, Mustaine was asked whether Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum's stance against gay marriage bothered him. Santorum is anti-gay marriage, believes Don't Ask, Don't Tell should be reinstated and believes mutually consenting adults do not have a constitutional right to privacy with respect to sexual acts. There's nothing wrong with Mustaine's opinion, of course. But he sure was terse with the reporter.
"It doesn't bother me at all," Mustaine answered. Ok, but what about supporting gay marriage? "I'm a Christian. The answer to that would be no," he replied.
Dave Mustaine says he might have cured cancer (at least once)
Back in November of 2011, Spin magazine interviewed Dave Mustaine and found out his most prized possessions. One of the items is a certificate given to him by a fan signed by the governor of Kentucky. Turns out, Mustaine is pretty sure he saved the fan's life.
"I met a fan in Kentucky who had throat cancer. He was only supposed to live a few weeks. For some reason, I reached out, grabbed his throat, and started praying for the dude. He lives long enough to give me [the certificate] on our next tour."
Dave Mustaine calls other musicians stupid
If there's one thing you don't do – it's call out other musicians in your genre. It just makes you look bad and then pisses everyone off. Back in June of 2011, whilst being interviewed by the Canadian paper Brandon Sun, Mustaine accused his fellow musicians of being stupid for giving away downloads as a promotional tool.
"Musicians who say they don't care, that's they'd give it away for free, are stupid. They've never been hungry. If you're going out there and being careless, and just letting your songs be downloaded for free, it's probably going to reflect in your longevity."
